DDR – Shell Build Application

This guide introduces the Shell Build functionality in Dynamic Data Replicator (DDR). It explains how DDR enables the creation of lightweight SAP systems by exporting system table data and repository objects while excluding all application data. The Shell Build feature supports system build, client build, and controlled data deletion, providing an efficient approach for preparing clean environments for testing, training, and development.

DDR Shell Build Guide

Shell Build Application

The Dynamic Data Replicator (DDR) Shell Build application allows organisations to create a lightweight SAP shell system by exporting system table data and repository information while excluding application data such as master and transactional records.

This makes Shell Build ideal for scenarios where customers need a clean SAP system for testing, training, development, project preparation, or controlled landscape refresh activities without carrying unnecessary business data.

What is Shell Build used for?

The Shell Build process integrates with SAP system copy functionality and provides a controlled scheduling interface. It helps users exclude application data during the system copy process while retaining the required system table data and repository information from the source system.

Using the export files generated by DDR, users can build a lightweight shell SAP system through SAP Software Provisioning Manager. The resulting system contains the technical foundation required for SAP operation, but without unnecessary application data.

System Build

Exports system table data and repository information for system-level replication while excluding application data.

Client Build

Creates specific SAP clients while maintaining the exclusion of master and transactional application data.

Data Deletion

Removes selected data based on business objects, date ranges, or complete master and transactional data deletion.

Why Shell Build is important

Shell Build helps customers create clean, lightweight SAP environments without the overhead of full application data. This reduces system size, improves refresh efficiency, and supports faster preparation of non-production environments for testing, training, development, and project delivery.

Important Note:

Shell Build is designed to exclude application data such as master and transactional data. The output should be validated before use to ensure the shell system meets the required testing, training, or development purpose.
