Scheduling Export – End-to-End Step-by-Step User Guide
This guide explains how to schedule DDR export runs from the Dashboard for Data Refresh, Object Refresh, and full system copy processes. It covers export selection, schedule settings, start date and time, run mode selection, and the required background job in the DDR console system.
Purpose of Export Scheduling
Export scheduling allows authorised DDR users to prepare a replication run and execute it at a future date and time. This is useful when data movement needs to happen outside business hours, during agreed maintenance windows, or when source and target system load must be carefully controlled.
Scheduling can be used for Data Refresh, Object Refresh, and full system copy style export processes. The user selects the export from the Dashboard, opens Schedule Settings, confirms the required date and time, selects the run mode, and then schedules the export for controlled execution.
Important: The scheduled export is processed by the DDR console background job. Please ensure the job /ADM/TDPG_SCHEDULE_EXPORT is scheduled and active in the console system.
Access the DDR Dashboard
From the DDR Central Console, select Dashboard from the left-hand menu. The Dashboard displays all available export records and provides the toolbar options required to create, simulate, execute, schedule, pause, refresh, report, and review error logs.
Before scheduling, confirm that the required export record is visible in the Dashboard and that the correct category is being used, such as All Categories, Time based, or the relevant refresh type.
Select the Export ID to Schedule
In the Dashboard table, select the radio button beside the export that needs to be scheduled. The selected row should represent the required template, export ID, run ID, source logical system, target logical system, and execution context.
The export can belong to a Data Refresh process, an Object Refresh process, or a full system copy process. Always validate that the correct export is selected before continuing, because the schedule will apply to the selected run.
| Dashboard Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Template Name | Shows the DDR template linked to the export. |
| Export ID | Identifies the export record that will be scheduled. |
| Run ID | Identifies the run instance for the export. |
| Source Logical System | Shows where the data will be read from. |
| Target Logical System | Shows where the data will be copied into. |
| Export Status | Indicates whether the selected export is ready, running, completed, failed, or scheduled. |
Open Schedule Settings
After selecting the export row, click Schedule Settings from the Dashboard toolbar. DDR opens the scheduling pop-up where the user can define the schedule start date, schedule start time, and run mode.
This screen is used to define when the export should start and how it should be executed. The scheduling action does not require the user to remain on the screen after the schedule has been saved, provided that the required DDR background job is active in the console system.
Select Schedule Date, Time, and Run Mode
In the Schedule pop-up, enter the required Schedule Start date and time. Then select the required Run Mode. The available run modes may include actual copy execution and simulation options, depending on the DDR configuration and selected export type.
Select the date on which the export should be released for processing.
Select the time at which the export should start, normally aligned to a maintenance or low usage window.
Select whether the process should run as an actual copy or as a simulation, based on the required operation.
Click Schedule to Save the Export Schedule
Once the schedule date, schedule time, and run mode have been confirmed, click Schedule. DDR saves the schedule against the selected export and makes it available for processing by the scheduled export background job.
After saving the schedule, return to the Dashboard and refresh the screen to confirm the export status and scheduled details. The Dashboard should remain the main place for checking export status, job progress, source status, target status, table counts, package size, workprocess allocation, and any messages returned during processing.
Console Background Job Requirement
DDR scheduled exports are picked up by the console background job. The job /ADM/TDPG_SCHEDULE_EXPORT must be scheduled in the DDR console system. Without this job, the export may remain scheduled but may not start automatically at the expected time.
| Technical Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Program or Job | /ADM/TDPG_SCHEDULE_EXPORT |
| System | DDR console system |
| Purpose | Checks scheduled DDR export records and releases them for execution at the planned time. |
| Operational Check | Confirm that the job is active, scheduled, and not cancelled in SM37. |
Advantages of Scheduling DDR Exports
Exports can be planned during approved maintenance periods or outside peak business activity.
Users do not need to manually start every export at the exact required time.
Large exports can be aligned to periods where source and target system load is lower.
Scheduled records provide visibility of what is planned, who created it, and when it is expected to run.
Checks Before Scheduling
- Confirm that the correct export row has been selected before opening Schedule Settings.
- Confirm that the template, export ID, source logical system, and target logical system are correct.
- Confirm that the required run mode has been selected.
- Confirm that the scheduled date and time match the agreed execution window.
- Confirm that the DDR console background job /ADM/TDPG_SCHEDULE_EXPORT is active.
- After scheduling, refresh the Dashboard and monitor export status, source progress, target progress, and messages.
